Music has been a part of my life. When I saw this meme I immediately checked and joined. I also love this hymn “Then Sings My Soul” (How Great Thou Art). When I was a kid, I learned to sing.
I have a story to tell: I’m not sure if you will believe this. When I was a baby, according to my Nanay (mother) our neighbors would wake up early morning because I was crying at the top of my voice, and for them it’s a siren. And they said, this child will become a singer someday. It was prophetic in the sense that it really happened. When one of our neighbors saw me when I was in teenage years, she ask me if I can sing, then I said yes, why? Then she told me about it, the same thing my family was telling me about what had happened when I was a baby.
When I was 10 years old, I learned to sing in a DVBS (Daily Vacation Bible School). Why? Because I was listening to my classmates while our teacher was training both of them to sing. I was not chosen at first because I’m a shy type of person when I was young. I learned while I was listening to their practice. Our teacher got bored already of the practice because she was repeating it again and again. Then I started to help the two girls in their practice. After few minutes I can sing better than my classmate. Then I was chosen to sing in duet with the other girl.
High School came, and I excell in my studies but I still continue to sing and my classmates encouraged me to join some singing contests and many times I won (yeheyyyy). Then my talent in singing was developed gradually.
Then came another opportunity for me to excell in my singing ability when I decided to study in a Bible School. I have learned the basic music, all the things that I need to learn, mostly I have learned it from there. I was able to train churches in their choir as young as 16. After studying I worked in a church but decided to study in a Bachelor’s Degree due to my Nanay’s desire that I will be a teacher someday like her.
Then I took up Bachelor’s Degree in Education but still my heart’s desire to be a musician keeps burning in my heart. So I applied for an auditon and was chosen as one of the Glee Club members and a known club in the campus. I also joined another christian group who loved to sing for any occasion like Evangelistic Crusade and the like. I was exposed in that area, that’s why when I finished my degree, instead of applying as an English teacher, the school wanted me to teach Music.
I was also given a chance to train different groups and churches in our area. And the Lord used me to be the pianist in our church since most of our pianists move to another place. I don’t have any certificate for piano lessons but miraculously God proves that He can use those who have a willing heart and desire to be used for His glory. I have nothing to loose because God is on my side and He blessed me a lot of skills…
